NEW YORK, February 9, 2010 – Delta Air Lines said arrangements for direct service between New York and Grenada are expected to be finalised by this weekend.
The airlines’ spokesman Carlos Santos said that the new agreement for the commencement of service on June 5th should be cleared by February 13th.
“Corporate Security has to give the clearance and that could come by the weekend. The new schedule will then be reflected on our flight itinerary,” he said.
Delta Air Lines originally announced direct service to Grenada from July 3rd but has since agreed to reschedule to June 5th following last week’s announcement by Air Jamaica of suspension of service to Grenada from March 9th.
“We are working with the Grenadian authorities to finalise direct service to St. George’s from New York. The service will commence on Saturday June 5th, with an additional Wednesday flight,” Santos said.
“Delta, the world’s largest airline, is excited about adding Grenada to its schedule and looks forward to provide world class service to the island”.
Tourism Minister Glynis Roberts has welcomed the announcement and commended the Grenada Airlift Committee for negotiating the arrangement..
The non-stop service departs JFK at 12:50 a.m. and arrives at the Maurice Bishop International Airport in Grenada at 5:40 a.m. with the return flight scheduled to depart at 6:40 a.m. and arriving in New York at midday.
Delta will use its 737-800 aircraft which offers 16 First Class seats and 144 Coach Class seats.
