St. George’s, September 6, 2012 – Public Relations Officer of the NDC, Arley Gill, has described as “extremely outstanding’’ the contribution to the party of its General Secretary Peter David.
“When some of the founding-members left the party for dead, Peter David was one of the new leaders that emerged to work and transform the NDC. Our party owes him a debt of gratitude,’’ Mr. Gill said.
His comments came following an announcement Thursday night from Mr. David, who revealed that he will not be offering himself for any party executive position at the September 30 convention of the National Democratic Congress.
“September 30 will do nothing to advance the cause for unity,’’ Mr. David said at a public meeting organized by the Town of St. George Constituency Group.
Mr. David has twice been elected NDC MP for the Town of St. George and has been the party’s General Secretary for more than a decade.
“During his tenure as General Secretary, as the chief organizer and mobilizer of the NDC, Honourable Peter David was extremely outstanding in bringing new members into the party, in fundraising and in raising the profile of the National Democratic Congress,’’ Mr. Gill said.
“Most importantly, he played a critical and leading role in moving the NDC from an opposition with no seats in parliament; to seven seats in 2003; and to an 11 – 4 NDC victory in 2008. It was the first time the NDC won a majority of seats in a Grenada election.’’
At Thursday’s meeting, at the St. George’s Anglican Senior School, MP David also disclosed that he will be seeking reelection at the next national polls.
“I am running again because we have unfinished business,’’ Mr. David said. “I am running again because too many people still don’t have a job or a serious means of survival. I am running again because ordinary people must have a voice on the table.’’
