Cultural opportunity for local and regional organizations

St. George’s, January 13, 2011 – Cultural organizations in Grenada and six other Caribbean countries are being invited to submit proposals for a U.S.-sponsored initiative called the Cultural Envoy Program. Funding is only provided to U.S. citizen Cultural Envoys.

It’s being administered under the auspices of the Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) Bureau of the U.S. State Department, through the American Embassy in Bridgetown, Barbados.

“The Cultural Envoy Program funds projects connecting American artists or cultural specialists with foreign cultural or educational institutions, enabling intensive, extended interaction between Envoys and foreign participants,’’ A U.S. Embassy notice said.

It added that “Envoy Programs can be conducted in diverse fields including theater, dance, hip-hop, music, film, intellectual property protection, literature, humanities, video art, sculpture, painting, the preservation of cultural heritage, conservation, museum administration and arts management. Other cultural fields will be considered with strong justification.’’

Each program will run on a short-term basis of 10 days to six weeks. It would involve one or two American performing or visual artists, art educators and arts managers, who will conduct what has been described as “innovative projects through workshops, master classes, lecture demonstrations, seminars, or other training and mentoring for younger professionals.’’

Among the requirements to be met in the proposal submissions are a “clear description of project objectives,’’ program outcomes, target audiences to be reached, the type of work the Cultural Envoy is expected to do, and background information on participants with whom the Envoy will be working.

While ECA covers the international travel and other costs of the Envoy, the cultural organization in Grenada and the other countries must meet expenses such program production costs.
