Cuban Ambassador pays visit and extends invitation to Grenada’s Opposition to Cuba

Tuesday 3rd May 2011: The Cuban Government has extended an official invitation to the opposition New National Party to send a delegation to Cuba in the next few months. The invitation came as Cuban Ambassador His Excellency Mr. Angel Reigosa de la Cruz and Second Secretary; Mr. Vladimir Falcon paid a courtesy visit to Former Prime Minister and Opposition Leader, Dr. the Right Honorable Keith Mitchell.

The visit saw discussion on the present economic situation in both Cuba and Grenada and ways forward for both countries. Other issues discussed included continued assistance from Cuba in the fields of education, agriculture etc.

Opposition Leader, Dr. Keith Mitchell, spoke of his gratitude to the Cuban people for their continued support of Grenada especially during these harsh economic times. Dr. Mitchell’s New National Party Administration, re-established formal diplomatic ties with Cuba in 1997. Since then scores of Grenadian students have studies in various fields including medicine and sport in Cuba. The Cuban Government has also provided assistance to Grenada through the energy saving light bulb program and the now discontinued adult literacy program.
