Copland Road in St. Patrick gets street lights

St. George’s, November 7, 2011 – Residents of Mt. Rodney, St. Patrick, have commended MP Joseph Gilbert for his efforts in what they describe as “important progress in the development of their community.’’

They are particularly impressed with work now taking place on Copland Road, where street lights were recently installed. There has also been reconstruction of a section of the road that has been in a dilapidated condition for years.

Mr. Gilbert, MP for St. Patrick West, recently toured the work site and said he was “delighted with the progress made so far by the contractor.’’

Altogether, the present phase of the work involves the construction of several hundred feet of concrete slipper drains and about 325 feet of concrete roadway, said Peter Charles, Road Officer for St. Patrick West.

In their meeting with Mr. Gilbert, villagers expressed gratitude to their “beloved MP for the quick response’’ to meeting their request to have GRENLEC install the street lights on Copland Road.

For his part, Mr. Gilbert assured the villagers that despite his transfer from the Ministry of Works in the latest cabinet reshuffle by Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, he would “continue the struggle to bring as much development to St. Patrick as is practicable.’’

MP Gilbert is now Minister of Environment, Foreign Trade and Export Development.

He is one of two MPs for the St. Patrick. The other is Prime Minister Thomas, who is parliamentary representative for St. Patrick East and leader of the ruling National Democratic Congress.
