St. George’s, December 9, 2009 – The National Lottery Authority (NLA), which has installed new technology to help improve its gaming system, has said that there is also a feature to assist Grenadian farmers.
The feature is called the “National Farm Produce Information System.’’ It is being included in the NLA’s new Abrazo system.
Lingham Samuel, chairman of the NLA, said the “National Farm Produce Information System’’ will be launched early in the New Year.
“This initiative by your lottery,’’ said Mr. Samuel, “is to enable the collection, storage and dissemination of information as it relates to the availability of agricultural produce on the island. Simply put, a farmer can go to a lottery-agent location and request that his information be posted on the system to include – but not limited to – quantity, when available, and price.’’
After the information is inputted, it will be “fed into a database which will be made available to exporters, hotels, restaurants, supermarkets and others,’’ Mr. Samuel said.
He described the “National Farm Produce Information System’’ as an NLA “contribution to the development of the agricultural industry and, by extension, the rural economy.’’
