The Constituency of St. George North East wishes to inform the general public, especially the residents of St. George North East, that the celebration of the Constituency Day will take place this year on Sunday, June 28, at the Tempe Playing Field from 8:00 in the morning.
The St. George North East Constituency Day is a day set aside each year – the last Sunday in June – with the objective of developing a consciousness of the constituency among the residents of the various communities and to instil a sense of pride in our history, accomplishments, talents and resources.
During the celebration, the focus will be on sports, culture, education, and recognition of outstanding members of the constituency. There will be an exhibition of arts, crafts and manufactured products. Food and drinks will also be on sale at very reasonable prices.
The St. George North East Constituency Council will also be launched on that day
The Constituency Council is designed to bring the Government and the Parliamentary representative closer to the people and the everyday realities of communities within the Constituency. In addition it aims to:
(a) Make sure that projects and programmes relate to these communities;
(b) Help communities within the Constituency to bring about real changes in people’s lives;
(c) Create the environment for local involvement in the process of decision-making whereby communities have a direct say in what takes priority in the delivery of essential services, and in the design and execution of solutions to problems;
(d) Generate, monitor and evaluate community projects/programmes within the Constituency;
The Constituency Council is not political-party based. The members can come from any political party, youth groups, faith-based or other civil society organizations existing in the communities within the Constituency.
The goal of this initiative is to ultimately improve the quality of democracy and the delivery of quality services to the people.
