ST GEORGE’S, GRENADA – 18th February, 2011: Members of Her Majesty Opposition and the entire new National Party team wishes to congratulate the medical director and the entire General Hospital team on the recent knee replacement surgeries. It is gratifying to note that the General Hospital team is attempting to keep up with medical advancements. Special appreciation is also expressed to the overseas team for the technical and material support that they would have provided to ensure the conduct of these operations.
The NNP however wishes to caution the Ministry of Health to keep its focus on the priorities in the health sector. The NNP is asking that the shortage of oxygen at the General Hospital which has caused many non emergency surgical cases to be postponed in recent weeks be corrected. Another area of grave concern is the chronic shortage of essential laboratory supplies which has become more acute in recent weeks and is hampering basic medical diagnosis and care.
