The members of the CARICOM Consular Corps in Toronto express deep regret and anguish over the tragedy that has befallen one of their member states, Haiti.
It took just a few seconds on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 to forever change the lives of hundreds of thousands of our brothers and sisters in Haiti. The massive earthquake to hit the capital Port-au-Prince has cause widespread death, destruction and mayhem.
The CARICOM Consular Corps calls on its national communities in Toronto, and the wider Canadian society, to give and give generously to the people of Haiti in their time of great need. Cash donations are urgently required and an appeal is being made for the public to give to the Haitian people, through Pierspective Entraide Humaitaire, a registered Canadian charity established by the Haitian Consulate and community in Ontario, by making donations to TD Canada Trust, Account # 5203333, Branch # 1096, or by sending cheques to 902 Bathurst Street, Toronto, Ontario M5R 3G3. Cheques can also be sent via any of the individual consulates for onward forwarding to Pierspective Entraide Humaitaire. Donations of dry and canned foods, water and clean clothing, can be dropped off at Atlas International Freight Forward, 6365 Northwest Drive, in Mississauga.
A system is being set up to coordinate donations over the long haul. It will take years for Haitians to achieve anything resembling normalcy, but we are committed to doing our part to assist in that process.
Our prayers go out to our brothers and sisters in Haiti, and once again we are urging our nationals to give generously to the cause in this time of critical need.
