CEREMONIOUS START TO 5TH AND FINAL DIGICEL TEST

Friday, March 6 – Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad:  The 5th and final Digicel Test officially bowled off this morning when 13-year-old Trinidadian cricketer, Joshua Ramdoo, a stylish young cricketer who hits the ball with tremendous power, joined West Indies Captain, Chris Gayle, and England Captain, Andrew Strauss, in the opening coin toss.

In addition to the usual opening coin toss, the start of the 5th Digicel Test also played host to three special moments in Cricket.

Windies’ newest addition, Trinidadian Lendl Simmons, received his first West Indies Test cap, as the 5th Digicel Test marks his first Test match for West Indies.

In an unveiling ceremony 10 minutes prior to the start of the 5th Digicel Test, as a tribute to one of Trinidad’s cricket hero’s, Brian Lara, The Queen’s Park Cricket Club’s Pavilion was revealed to have been renamed the the ‘Brian Lara Pavilion’.

And finally, to pay tribute to those who lost their lives and those who lost loved ones in the terrorist attack against the Sri Lanka cricket team in Pakistan, all at the Queen’s Park Oval stood for a moment of silence.

As the West Indies face England in the 5th and final Digicel Test of the Digicel Series 2009, there is great expectation for the Windies.  Joshua Ramdoo who is too young to remember the last Windies Test Series victory on home soil, is excited about a possible Windies win: “It would be great to see the Windies win.  I would be so happy, it would really be the greatest moment of my life and I know they can win.”
