St. George’s, March 21, 2012 – Public Relations Officer of the National Democratic Congress, Senator Arley Gill, has said that the party’s leadership is looking forward to “fruitful discussions’’ at this weekend’s General Council in Carriacou.
The meeting will be held Sunday, March 25, 10 a.m., at the Hillsborough Primary School.
NDC Leader and Prime Minister, Hon. Tillman Thomas, will attend the meeting along with other party executive members, as well as delegates from all 14 constituencies in Grenada. It is the first NDC General Council to be held in Carriacou in more than four years.
“We welcome this opportunity to be with the Brothers and Sisters of Carriacou,’’ Sen. Gill said. “Carriacou has been an integral part of the life and history of the NDC, having given us people like former Prime Minister, Sir Nicholas Brathwaite, and former party leader and current President of the Senate, Joan Purcell.’’
General Councils are mandated by the NDC’s constitution, Sen. Gill said. “They involve routine matters such as reports and updates on the operations of the various organs of the party,’’ he explained.
At Sunday’s meeting, he added, “I expect that there will be fruitful discussions as our party plans and prepares for the next general election.’’
In the last national poll in 2008, the NDC won 11 of 15 seats. “We must do everything necessary to win a second consecutive term,’’ Sen. Gill said.
