St. George’s, October 21, 2011 (GIS) – One of the final activities associated with Spicemas 2011 will be held on Monday, October 24. It’s the prize-giving ceremony for carnival winners in pan, soca, calypso and masquerade.
Senator Glen Noel, Minister with responsibility for Information, said that just over $400,000 had been secured for the full payment of prizes.
Carnival ended on August 9 and Sen. Noel said despite the lateness in making the payout, “government recognizes the importance of the stakeholders and the significant contributions they have made over the years’’ to carnival in Grenada.
The delay in payment, he explained, “is because of the global economic crisis and the inconsistencies in government cash flow.’’
Sen. Noel emphasized the need for government and the public and private sectors “to continue working together to ensure the continued development of Grenada’s carnival.’’
Next Monday’s prize-giving ceremony begins 5 p.m., and will be held at the Players’ Pavilion, Level 1, National Stadium, St. George’s.
