Carnival City Thursday at Garfield’s, Sunday in St. John

St. George’s, June 13, 2012 – A stellar lineup has been assembled for the next two showcases of Carnival City 2012 – one to be held in St. John and the other in St. George’s.

Carnival City is a production of the Spicemas Corporation (SMC) which is staging a series of shows across the country in the run up to Spicemas on August 13 and 14.

Carnival City, which was launched on June 6, will be taken to Cuthbert Peters’ Park in St. John on Sunday, June 17.

Performers include defending Soca Monarch, Terror Kid; 2010 Soca Monarch, Otis; and Pan Ossia, first runner up at the 2011 National Panorama competition.

Others to perform at what the SMC has described as a four-hour “family fun day’’, from 4 pm to 8 pm, include Florida All Stars Steel Orchestra, Kennedy and Crane.

Another highlight is a “Clash of the Titans’’ in the field of traditional mas. The showdown will feature the Coast Guard Rebel Shortknee, Waterloo Shortknee and Hermitage Shortknee.

There will also be traditional displays from Vieux Coeur, Wild Indians and Moko Jumbie.

The 2012 Spicemas theme is, “Uniquely Rooted in Our Rich Ancestral Traditions. Shortknee: Legacy of the Chantuelle’’.

Before moving to St. John on Sunday, the SMC will host a Carnival City show at Garfield’s Summer Lime on Kirani James Boulevard, formerly Lagoon Road.

The event at Garfield’s is Thursday, June 14, and will be headlined by artistes such as the 2011 Lucozade Road March King, Lavaman.

Other acts for Thursday’s Carnival City Lime, which begins 8 pm, include Chain, Scholar, Mr. West, Biko, Rayne, Crane, and Shortpree. They’ll be joined visiting artistes such as Luta and Fireman.
