St. George’s, November 20, 2011 – Goals by Dexter “Pyie’’ Lawrence and Richards “Reds’’ Cherebin gave Carenage victory over Queen’s Park Rangers when the two teams met in a clash of players 40 years and older.
On a soggy Queen’s Park ground on Saturday, QPR and Carenage played competitively for 80 minutes. At times, the exchange was reminiscent of many years ago when the players were rivaling one another in the Premiere League of the Grenada Football Association.
It was Carenage’s second consecutive win over Rangers, having first beaten the River Road team on October 29 at Old Trafford in Tanteen.
The round of friendly matches by the Carenage Over-40 team will continue with arrangements being made to play against a squad of retired footballers from Honved and St. John, as well as to schedule a visit to Carriacou.
A competition, which would involve Carenage and several other Over-40 teams, is also being planned for Old Trafford. Some private sector officials, as well as the MP for the Town of St. George, have already committed to supporting the competition.
“This is an extremely positively development. It is good for the players, good for the spectators, and something that is sure to return Old Trafford to its former position as one of the prime football fields in the city,’’ said MP Peter David.
