Carenage footballers draw first blood against QPR

St. George’s, October 31, 2011 – Carenage has gone one up against Queen’s Park Rangers (QPR) in what is now expected to be the best of three matches among players 40 years and older.

In the first match last Saturday at Old Trafford in Tanteen, Carenage defeated QPR 3 – 2. Carenage led throughout the encounter, and held a 2-nil margin at one point.

The game was a re-acquaintance of old GFA Premiere League rivals, who displayed flashes of their football brilliance that had brought many of them to Grenada’s national junior and senior teams.

Carenage and QPR are expected to play a second game in two weeks at Queen’s Park.

“We encourage spectators to come out and witness the games. We thank those, such as Island Catering and MP Peter David, who have come forward so far to sponsor refreshment,’’ said one organizer. “We look forward to additional support for both football and cricket that we have been having at Old Trafford.’’
