Camper and Nicholson pledges more job to Grenadians

St George’s, November 11, 2009 – A senior official of Camper and Nicholsons Marinas International, which is responsible for the Port Louis Marina in Lagoon Road, is promising more jobs for  Grenadians when the marina is fully established. 

James Beaver, Operations Director of Camper and Nicholsons, told Works Minister Hon. Joseph Gilbert that close to 100 jobs will be provided to Grenadians.

Mr. Beaver’s comment was made during a courtesy call on the Minister, in which he updated Mr. Gilbert on the company’s development program for the Lagoon Road area.

He said the marina, which will consist of 160-170 berths, will incorporate Grenadian businesses that will provide supporting services for yachtsmen using the facility.

Minister Gilbert, in response to Mr. Beaver, said he was “pleased that on completion of this project, many Grenadians will find jobs.’’

Mr. Beaver said the current phase of construction is expected to be completed by Christmas, adding that Camper and Nicholsons is considering moving into a 24-hour work operation.

At the meeting, Minister Gilbert was introduced to Glyeen Thomas, the new General Manager of Camper and Nicholsons. Apart from the General Manager and the Project Manager, the rest of the workforce is Grenadian and Caribbean nationals.

Hon. Gilbert reassured the marina officials of the government’s continued support for the success of the project.
