In the opening 50 ODI on their tour of the West Indies, Australia overame a poor batting performance with some good bowling aided by some bad batting by the West Indies.

Australia batted first and scored a paltry 204 for 8 of their 50 overs.  The Australians had good starts for all but one of the top order batsmen but none of them took the advantage to post a big score.  Top scoring for the Aussies was new comer GJ Bailey who hit 48 of 67 balls.

The West Indies in reply was soon in trouble with openers Johnson Charles and K.
