ACP Secretary Plans to Visit Grenada

The Secretary General of the ACP – the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States – has agreed to visit Grenada.

His Excellency, Sir John R. Kaputin, accepted an invitation for the visit that was extended to him bygr Stephen Fletcher, Grenada’s recently appointed Ambassador to the European Union.

The two men met Tuesday at the ACP headquarters in Brussels, where they discussed a range of issues, including the current global financial situation and its impact on ACP countries such as Grenada.

Mr. Fletcher also expressed the concerns of Grenada as they relate to the environmental vulnerability of Small Island Developing States, reiterated Grenada’s commitment to the integration movement in the Caribbean, as well as our country’s willingness to be an integral part of the ACP.

The Grenada Ambassador, a former Assistant Professor at St. George’s University, also confirmed Grenada’s desire for a deepening of the cultural, political and economic relations among the nations of Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific.

Sir John, in welcoming Mr. Fletcher to Brussels and to the ACP headquarters, said he was looking forward to his contribution to the organisation.

The ACP Secretary says he plans to take up Mr. Fletcher on his invitation to visit Grenada. Sir John, however, did not give any indication on how soon he’ll be visiting our country.
