Martinique’s defeat give Grenada the green light for Digicel Caribbean Championships’ Finals

Grenada gain entry to the DCC Finals with 4 points and a goal difference of +1, and Guadeloupe top the group with 9 points, sending Cayman Islands and Martinique back home.
As Grenada celebrated Martinique’s defeat, their Head Coach and Captain, Anthony Modeste commented on their victory: “We are very happy to be going to the DCC Finals especially in Group J with Jamaica. We must give a special thanks to our hosts Guadeloupe for getting rid of Martinique.”
Modeste, who lives in Jamaica and is the current Captain of Digicel Premier League team Portmore United, has high hopes for Grenada in the Finals: “We will do well against Jamaica. We played them in June and beat them 2-1 and we will be a stronger team this time around.”
Coach Modeste disclosed that Grenada will be adding two more players to the already renewed team, one of which is a player from the US MLS (Major League Soccer): “We have revamped the team since Stage 1 and collectively we are working together and playing harder. We will be stronger in Jamaica.”
While eager to play in the DCC Finals, Group F champions Guadeloupe are not over confident. Head Coach Roger Salnot explains: “We will need to prepare for the Finals because we will be in Group I with DCC Champions Haiti so we must be very prepared to play them. It will be exciting because we will also have new opponents and therefore new challenges so preparation is important.
Going into the Finals in Jamaica we will work on getting a stronger and more united team. We must and will perform better than we have done in Stage 2.”
Guadeloupe and Grenada will now prepare for the Digicel Caribbean Championships’ Finals to be held in Jamaica. Guadeloupe will join Haiti in Group I along with winner of Stage 2’s Group G and second place winner from Group H. Grenada will join DCC Finals’ host Jamaica in Group J along with winner of Stage 2’s Group H and second place winner from Group G.
The 2008 Digicel Caribbean Championships’ Finals will be held in Jamaica from December 4 to December 14.
