Solemn Blessing of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish Church, Beaulieu

Beaulieu, in the north east of St. George’s, will be the scene of a great Catholic celebration on Sunday, 30 May 2010, when the new Parish Church of Our Lady Help of Christians will be solemnly blessed by Bishop Vincent Darius.

The original church was totally demolished after the passage of Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. The new church was built on the same site at a cost of $1.12 m. over a period of five years.

The first priority of the Catholic Church in the post-Ivan devastation was to assist the most vulnerable people in the reconstruction of their homes. The repair of presbyteries was second and the reconstruction of church buildings third. Beaulieu is the first of the many Catholic churches that were demolished to be totally re-built from the foundations.

The interior design of the new church is the result of much discussion by members of the community and input from liturgical design consultant, Christine Reinhard. The building is seen, not as an auditorium but as a house for God’s Family as they gather around the table of the Lord.

All are invited to the ceremony which begins at 3.00 p.m. and which will be carried live on V.O.G. and on the Internet via spiceislander.com
