NYC; July 2015 ‒ Inspired by great artistes, such as Whitney Houston, Billy Ocean, Chaka Khan, The Mighty Sparrow, Maria Carey, Beres Hammond, Celine Dion and Florry Duncan (her dad), Cheryl Vincent, aka Cheryl V, is a dynamic songwriter and singer with an incredible voice range and an awesome stage presence.
No stranger to the performing arena, this Grenadian-born talented artiste, has toured England, Scotland, Ireland, the USA and Canada with one of Grenada’s top performing groups, Spice Island Youthquake, beginning at the tender age of 11. Since then, she has settled on calling Brooklyn home where she continues to pursue her passion for music, inter alia.
Along with spending time in a studio and most importantly, performing her parental duties as mother of the talented Cherayna Rullow, her 15-year old daughter who acts (with Brooklyn Children’s Theatre), sings and writes soca and R&B and has already recorded multiple singles, Cheryl V serves with distinction as a registered nurse at a major Brooklyn hospital. Additionally, Cheryl V is a managing partner of Moonstone Productions, a music production and artiste development establishment.
Over the past few years she has been the lead singer of the bands “In Synch” and “HiLites”, and has also performed as a solo artiste at many NYC events.
Noted for her versatility in multiple genres – reggae, gospel, calypso, folk music, soulful R&B and Pop, Cheryl V has already released four CD albums. Her first one was “Merry Christmas” (a mix of original and popular seasonal covers done in calypso and reggae) in 1996; her second “Got Game” (R&B) in 2005; her third “Unconditional Love” (R&B/Pop) in 2012; and her fourth, “Cheryl V’s Christmas Favorites” (traditional and religious classics of various genres) in 2013.
The versatile Cheryl V is also one of the lead voices in Quake USA’s album entitled “Quake Music” and in Spice Island Youth Quake’s “Volume One” album — two compilations of traditional Caribbean folk and gospel music. Quake USA is a NY-based Caribbean folk group of mostly Grenadian origin.
Significantly, Cheryl V also performs with and co-directs Quake USA and independently accepts bookings to perform her songs, classic covers and the anthems of various nations. Anthems sung include, but are not limited to, that of the USA, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, Guyana, Haiti, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Dominica, Barbados, Antigua Barbuda, St. Kitts Nevis, Cuba, Venezuela, Nigeria and South Africa.
Generally, Cheryl V performs at weddings, private and organizational social events and official ceremonies, even as she continues to expand her repertoire working on her fifth album, which would feature R&B, reggae and world-beat tunes.
Cheryl V, the singing, songwriting and enterprising sensation is certainly making her mark in the music industry.
