London, UK March 1st 2012 The High Commissioner for Grenada, Her Excelency Ruth Elizabeth Rouse, today convened the 1st Committee Meeting as Chairwoman of the 2012 Commonwealth Fair.
The Fair Committee has responsibility for the planning and execution of the Fair as well as assisting with pre-fair events. The Annual Commonwealth Fair supports fundraising efforts of the Commonwealth Countries League Education Fund, which grants scholarships to needy girls in Commonwealth Countries, who are of high academic ability, to complete their secondary education.
High Commissioner Rouse said she was honoured to be invited to Chair the Fair Committee for 2012, and is seeking support of the Community at large to raise as much funds as possible for such a worthy cause.
“In a year when the UK will be filled with visitors attending the London 2012 Olympics as well as the Diamond Jubilee, and with the Commonwealth 2012 Theme “Connecting Cultures”, it is an opportune time to renew our commitment to the Fair”.
The Committee is hoping to involve schools and young people with activities leading up to the fair. A full listing of pre-fair events will be circulated shortly.
High Commissioner Rouse is supported by her Deputy Chairwomen, Mrs Quamrun Khan (Bangladesh) and Mrs Joyce Kallaghe (Tanzania), as well as over twenty committee members.
