The 5th annual Made In Grenada Celebrity Football Match will take place for the first time, in 2012, outside the Parish of St. George. Over the past four years the game has realized in excess of $30,000 for a variety of charities and the 2012 will be no different with the Grenada National Council for the Disabled and the Rainbow City Allstars Steelband being this year’s beneficiaries.
This year’s game will take place on Saturday April 28th, at 4pm at the Victoria Park in Grenville and will feature a team of Local Celebrities against Real Ole Men (winners of the recently concluded National over 40 competition).
Among those suiting up for the Celebrity team will be the reigning Soca Monarch Terror Kid, former road march winners Tallpree, Otis and Soca Banton, former West Indies cricketer Junior Murray, former National football Captain Nixon Modeste, radio personalities, Shaggy, Mickey Hutchinson and Heavy D. The defense of the Celebrity team will be anchored by Deleon Walters, former Calypso Monarch Raymond ‘Beast’ Matthew and Minister of Foreign Affairs Karl Hood.
As with all Made In Grenada events the game will feature a variety of local foods including oil down and bake and saltfish and a special Westerhall Estate rum bar.
The excitement of Celebrity football on a Saturday afternoon in Grenville promises to be a fun-filled spectacle that will include live performances from several Soca Artistes at the end of the game.
The handover of the monies realized from the game will be made in the name of the “Duke Foundation” to honor the work and life of Anthony ‘Jericho’ Greenidge. Jericho was a spokesperson for and participant in the Celebrity match the past four years and his contribution to the success of the game will not go unnoticed.
