2010 NAWASA National Primary School Quiz

St. George’s, Grenada (December 3, 2010) – The NAWASA National Primary School Quiz for 2010 has finally ended and St. George’s Anglican Senior School has retained their crown. During a keen battle with Paraclete Government School, St. George’s Anglican Senior School showed their dominance and after the final question was asked they were declared the champions with a loud cheer erupting from their supporters. In the third place playoff newcomers Mt. Moritz Anglican School defeated Hermitage Government School to take the spot.
The competition which started on November 19, 2010 with a preliminary round saw the participation of over 159 students from Grenada and Carriacou. The top eight schools from this round were then advanced to a quarterfinal round. Special mention was made of Mt. Pleasant Government School in Carriacou, which did not qualify for the quarterfinal round, but placed 12th out of the 53 schools; and Mt. Moritz Anglican School who made it into the semifinals and finished third in the competition.
The presentation ceremony followed the championship match and began with all students representing the top eight schools receiving a NAWASA logoed shirt and bag filled with notebooks and pencil cases from Catwills Stationery and Brydens & Minors.
Fourth placed team Hermitage Government School walked away with gift baskets compliments Independence Agencies, Gift Certificates from Rick’s Café, disposable cameras from Kool Systems, savings accounts at Grenada Cooperative Bank for each representative, trophies and a cheque valued at Five Hundred Dollars from NAWASA.
Mt. Moritz Anglican School on placing third walked away with gift certificates from Grill Master, disposable cameras from Kool Systems, savings accounts at First Caribbean International Bank for the representatives, gift baskets from Food Fair Supermarket, trophies and a cheque valued at One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars from NAWASA.
Second placed team Paraclete Government School received disposable cameras compliments Hankeys Computer Servives, savings accounts at ScotiaBank for all representatives, shopping vouchers courtesy Real Value IGA Supermarket, gift baskets from Huggins Distribution, a day pass inclusive of lunch at the Grenada Grand Beach Resort for the team and their coach, trophies and a cheque valued at Three Thousand Dollars from NAWASA.
The 2010 Champions, St. George’s Anglican Senior School received disposable cameras from Hankeys Computer Services, shopping vouchers from Real Value IGA Supermarket, a nite’s stay at the True Blue Bay Resort inclusive of dinner, Mp3 players from Beacon Insurance, gift baskets from Andalls Supermarket, movie tickets from Movie Palace, accounts at Grenada Public Service Credit Union compliments Grenada Development Bank, a computer courtesy LIME, trophies and a cheque valued at Five Thousand Dollars from NAWASA. The coach of the winning team, Mr. Pierre also received a plaque courtesy ADM Caribbean Agro and a mobile phone courtesy Digicel.
The top student from the preliminary round was Othniel Simon from St. George’s SDA School and he received a plaque from Creative Designs and a gift certificate from Grenada Teachers School Supplies.
Students were encouraged to continue being water wise kids and ensure that the knowledge gained through this competition is shared with others.
