ALBION, Guyana – West Indies Under-19s levelled their Youth One-day International series against Bangladesh, after half-century from Shimron Hetmyer and Fabian Allen set them up and steady bowling from their captain Ramaal Lewis formalised a 36-run victory on Saturday here.
Lewis followed up a valuable 13 not out with 3-35 from his allotted 10 overs to earn the Man-of-the-Match award, as the Windies Under-19s bowled the Bangladeshis out for 204 in 46.3 overs in the penultimate match of the series at the Albion Sports Complex about 50 miles outside of the Guyana capital of Georgetown.
The result brought the home team level 3-3 in the seven match series, after they won the first and previous matches either side of three straight wins for the visitors.
The series concludes on Monday at Everest in Georgetown.
Hetmyer had led the way with 65 and Allen was unbeaten on 50, as West Indies Under-19s reached 240 for eight from their allocation of 50 overs, after they chose to bat.
Tristan Coleman made 36 and Taryck Gabriel added 28, but the Bangladesh Under-19s failed to have things go all their way. Jubair Hossain was the pick of the bowlers with 3-56 from 10 overs.
The Windies Under-19s then bowled steadily to ensure that the Bangladeshis never ran away with the scoring rate, as Joyraz Sheik led all scorers in the match with 78 off 106 balls that included five fours.
The hosts claimed wickets at regular wickets, soon the run rate continued to mount and panic ruined the chase for the visitors, as no other batsman reached 30.
Earlier, Hetmyer struck half-dozen boundaries from 97 balls and shared successive half-century stands that steadied the West Indies Under-19s after they stumbled to 23 for two.
Hetmyer put on 76 for the third wicket with Coleman and added 51 for the fourth wicket with Gabriel before he became Jubair’s first scalp.
A period of turbulence saw the Windies Under-19s stumble to 191 for eight before Lewis came to the crease and put on 49 – unbroken – for the ninth wicket with Allen, whose 38-ball innings contained two fours and three sixes, that helped the Caribbean side reach their highest total for the series.
