“MUST-LOOK’’ DOCUMENTARY ON CALYPSO

St. George’s, November 6, 2009 (GIS) – A documentary film featuring many of the legends of calypso is a “lesson’’ in regional history, says Senator Arley Gill.

“Calypso Dreams’’ will be aired on Channel 12 – the television network of the Government Information Service (GIS) – from 1 pm on Saturday, November 7.

The documentary, produced by Geoffrey Dunn and Michael Horne, was filmed on location at places such as the homes of entertainers, on the streets and in shops. It includes commentaries by David Rudder and Harry Belafonte and interviews with scores of artistes, including Grenada-born Mighty Sparrow, Brother Valentino and Bomber.

“It is just an amazing documentary,’ said Senator Gill, the Minister of State with Responsibility for Information and Culture.  “I think it is a good lesson in Caribbean history; a good lesson in the history of the development of us as a Caribbean people.’’

Senator Gill also describes the documentary as a “must-look’’ for every calypsonian and calypso enthusiast.
