Bridgetown, Barbados, March 9 – Windward Islands beat Barbados by one wicket in a thrilling finish to their ninth round WICB first-class match here today. Chasing 196 for victory, the Windwards ended 200 for nine off 59.2 overs with one session remaining.
Darren Sammy was again the Windwards’ batting hero, hitting 70 not out to follow-up his first innings maiden century of 121.
Sammy and Nelon Pascal (two not out) added 28 for the last wicket.
St. Lucian Sammy was at the crease for 173 minutes, faced 108 balls and struck eight fours and one six, which ended the match with an upper cut to third man off pacer Kemar Roach
Seamer Corey Collymore took three for 45 and Kemar Roach, three for 54.
The win took the Windwards to 60 points and left Barbados on 54 as the teams awaited the result of the other key match in the series between title holders and championship leaders Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago in Kingston.
