Windwards 48-2 in reply to Barbados’

Bridgetown, Barbados, March 12  – The Windward Islands were 48 for two off 18 overs in reply to Barbados’ first innings total of 341 all out – 80 minutes after tea on the second day of the fifth round regional first-class match at Kensington Oval here today.

The not out batsmen were Andre Fletcher on 26 and Keddy Lesporis, six.

Tyrone Theophile was bowled by left-arm pacer Pedro Collins for one as he essayed a big drive (2-1; 2.3 overs) and Atticus Browne was snapped up by wicket-keeper Shane Dowrich, swooping to his left as he edged an expansive drive off fast bowler Tino Best for 12 (36-2; 12.3 overs).

Barbados, starting the day on 201 for four, were bowled in 148 overs – 16 minutes before the scheduled tea interval. Tea was then taken.

All-rounder Kevin Stoute topscored with 72, opener Kraigg Brathwaite made 57 and Dowrich was unbeaten on 56 – his second consecutive half-century.

Liam Sebastien, the Windward Islands captain and off-spinner, took six for 97 off 47 overs.

Barbados skipper Shamarh Brooks, who resumed on 21, was caught at the wicket by Lyndon James off an outswinger from pacer Mervin Matthews in the fourth over with the second new ball, for 34 (236-5; 108.2 overs); his overnight partner Stoute, who started the day on 45, was caught at first slip by Lesporis off left-arm pacer Kenroy Peters (258-6; 117.3 overs); Jason Holder was bowled by left-arm spinner Garey Mathurin for 31 (316-7; 136.2 overs); Best, swiping at Sebastien, was bowled for three (321-8; 139.1 overs); Fidel Edwards, cutting at Sebastien, was also bowled for three (335-9; 141.5 overs) and Collins was leg before wicket on the backfoot by Sebastien for one (341 all out; 148 overs).

Dowrich batted for 163 minutes, received 118 balls and hit two sixes and two fours. He got to his half-century in 140 minutes off 99 balls with four fours and one six.

Stoute was the crease for four hours, faced 176 balls and hit four boundaries. He reached his first half-century of the season in 153 minutes off 127 balls with three fours.

Yesterday, left-hander Jason Haynes was leg before wicket by Sebastien for 31 as he played across a low full toss (48-1; 22.2 overs); Kyle Hope, pulling a short ball from the same bowler, was caught at midwicket by Lesporis for ten (68-2; 32.3 overs); Jonathan Carter edged left-arm pacer Delorn Johnson low to first slip in Fletcher after scoring 33 (130-3; 58.4 overs) and Brathwaite (57) swung Sebastien to midwicket where Theophile took a diving catch (141-4; 66.4 overs).
