St Patrick’s Day Celebrations!

ST GEORGE’S, GRENADA: The St Patrick’s Day celebrations ended with a road show on Saturday March 29th and exhibitions and street fiesta on March 30th.  On Saturday March 29th the Patrick’s Organization for Development (S.P.O.D) had a road show led by DJ swift, from the Anglican school court yard through the bus terminal and back.  

This was repeated 5 times and each time the crowd grew larger.  The activity ended at 10.00pm.  This was to get this heated for the big day on Sunday.  On Sunday 30th March, the St Patrick’s Day kicked off with exhibitions both Food, arts and crafts and agricultural. 

  The agricultural exhibitions were held at the vegetable market in low town Sauteurs where farmers were able to exhibit and sell their produce.  The Food, arts and crafts exhibitions were held at the Anglican school yard where persons from all over St Patrick’s came and showed-off their talents to the public.  Ms. Anastasia Roberts brought her products made from Tamarind like Tamarind nectar and cordial.   Floral Fantasy headed by Zozu Antoine brought some of his creative floral arrangements and plants.  Mr. Justin Olive had some very interesting crafts made from coconut shells and sea shells one of which was a jewelry box.  Mrs. Florence Cyrus from Northern Cuisine restaurant and catering services had one of the most attractive pieces at he exhibitions that had the crowd buzzing, a seven stand wedding tier.

The activity was then livened with sweet steel pan music from some of the most popular names in the business like Grand-Roy Pan Angels, Courts New Dimension and Republic Angel harps.  The street fiesta began with live performances from Luni- Spark and electrify and other local artists.  The street fiesta continued up to mid-night with DJ in almost every corner of the street and hundreds of people dancing to a variety of music.

  Speaking to one of the members of SPOD, she mentioned that the activities planned were successful to an extent but they all had greater expectations.  Mr. Francis Noel, chairman of SPOD said that he expected to see more people but his is still pleased with the couple thousands that turned out and is looking forward to a massive turn-out in the years to come.
