Williams received 76.52 % of the vote, while incumbent, Vincentian Kendall Stewart received 17.42%, in Tuesday’s election. A third candidate Sal Grupico had 6.46 % of the vote.

The following is the text of the Prime Minister’s statement.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Grenada, I offer congratulations on your victory in the elections for the 45th City Council District in Brooklyn.

Your participation in the political life of the people of Brooklyn and by extension the United States, follows a long tradition of Grenadians and Caribbean nationals, who at various levels, have influenced and improved the lives of their compatriots in their adopted homeland.

Your victory comes at a time when our administration in St. Georges, is making every effort to reach out to Grenadians in the Diaspora, to play a bigger role in the development of their country.

It is my hope that we can work together to help attract to Grenada, those of us in the Diaspora, who are willing and able, to assist in Grenada’s development.”

We are very proud of your accomplishment and we wish you every success in your term of office. “
