St. George’s Grenada, MOEPRU, Monday October 19th 2009 – The Government of Grenada has been successful in securing financing from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) toward the rehabilitation of the islands schools. This new project was approved by the CDB Board on October 14th 2009.
St. George’s Grenada, MOEPRU, Monday October 19th 2009 – The Government of Grenada has been successful in securing financing from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) toward the rehabilitation of the islands schools. This new project was approved by the CDB Board on October 14th 2009.
- Loan from the Caribbean Development Bank- USD5M representing 84% of the project costs.
- A Grant of USD 60,000.00 also from the CDB representing 1% of the project cost.
- Government of Grenada counterpart financing EC2.522M (USD945, 000.00) representing 15% of project costs.
The CDB Board applauded the Government of Grenada for its swiftness in preparing this project for submission to the Board for the October sitting, having only formally requested CDB’s assistance towards the financing of the Project in June of this year.
The main objectives of the project are to improve the quantity of basic education and enhanced capacity to deliver the complete secondary school curriculum including technical and vocational subjects.
The project will be undertaken in the context of a wider Education Reform Programme implemented by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development in collaboration with the Project Coordination Unit (PCU) under the Ministry of Finance.
Specifically, the project will finance the completion of rehabilitation works at Vendome R.C., along with three (3) secondary schools: St. Joseph’s Convent St. George’s, Grenville Secondary and Grenada SDA Comprehensive.
The project will also facilitate the provision of teacher training and institutional strengthening activities. Under the institutional strengthening and training component the following activities will be financed:
- Curriculum reform;
- Consultancy services to rationalize the delivery of TVET;
- Training for approximately forty (40) teachers in competency based training to teacher level 1 TVET programmes;
- Five (5) TVET teachers in specialized competency based undergraduate programme;
- Two (2) teachers will be financed to pursue training leading to a first degree in Creative and Performing Arts;
- One hundred and fifty five (155) principals and deputy principals and three hundred (300) teachers will benefit from training leading to a professional Development Certificate (PDC); and
- Technical Assistance (TA) will be made available to assist in the area of school transformation
