Two local companies, one choir and fifteen individuals, were given awards for many years of unselfish giving of time, treasure and talent in the service of the Catholic Diocese of St. George’s-in-Grenada at the “Flambeau Award Dinner” held at the Spice Basket on Saturday 29 October 2011.
Thanking the awardees Bishop Vincent Darius quoted Matthew chapter 5, verse 16 “Your light must shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” “I feel humbled yet grateful for the opportunity to say ‘thanks’” said Bishop Darius.
L.A Purcell and George F. Huggins were the two corporate bodies to be publicly thanked for their generous service over many years. The one music group was the choir of Good Shepherd Church, Petite Bacaye.
The seventeen individuals were, Catherine Francis, Crochu, Evalina Gray , Mary Cecilia Telesford and Lorelle Francis from Perdmontemps, Clarice Sylvester, Shirley Robinson and nine year-old Danelle Patrick-Brown from Sauteurs, Joan Gilbert and Nolan Ross from Petite Bacaye. Four awardees came from St. Paul’s, Sydney Mitchell, Keith Lessey, Sheldon Bubb and Roger Mitchell. The remaining four were Ambrosina Sylvester, River Sallee, Clement Gittens, Birch Grove, Anselm James, Hillsborough and Sir Royston Hopkin, Grand Anse.
The guest speaker at the Ceremony was Most Rev. Malcolm Gault CSSp., Bishop Emeritus of Barbados.
The event was organised by group of dedicated and hardworking volunteers led by Mrs. Joslyn Sylvester Gairy.
