NATIONAL NUTRITION QUIZ

Every year the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council spearheads the staging of a National Nutrition Quiz among secondary schools who follow the Food and Nutrition curriculum.

The school from this quiz will represent Grenada at the regional nutrition quiz competition which is conducted by the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute (CFNI).  Grenada has won the regional competition on two occasions – 2001 & 2003.  The objectives of this quiz are two-fold:

1.     To provide opportunity for students to review course work in preparation for the CXC examination

2.     To improve the image of Food and Nutrition not only in Grenada but also in the region.

As was done last year, this year’s competition will also be in zones: South, East, West and Carriacou and thereafter the winner of each zone will meet in the grand final. The first round of the competition was held today Wednesday April 16, 2008 at 1:30pm, with the venue for the south zone being Melville Street Fish Market Conference Room; for the East zone it was Eastern District Agricultural Office in Grenville; for the West zone the venue was St. John Public Library and for Carriacou it was John’s Unique Conference Room.

At the end of the competition the winners from the zones who will meet in the finals are as follows:

South Zone: St. Joesph’s Convent

East Zone: St. Andrew’s Anglican Seconday School

West Zone: St. Rose Modern Secondary School.

Carriacou: Bishops College

Anglican High School which has been champions for the past two years were dethroned as they were not able to secure a spot in the final round, hence a new champion will be crowned this year.

The finals which will be held on April 23rd at Melville Street Fish Market Conference Room starting at 1pm.

The winning team will represent Grenada at the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute’s Regional Quiz later this year. The public is invited to come out and support the students and by extension the schools participating.
