THREE MEMBER OAS TEAM WRAPS UP MISSION IN GRENADA ON THURSDAY

A visiting three member team of officials from the Organization of American States wraps up its two day mission in Grenada on Thursday. The team held separate meetings with Government, Opposition and Parliamentary Elections Office officials on Wednesday. The OAS members are here to provide technical support to Grenada as it prepares for its next general election.

The offer of assistance was promised by the Organization’s Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza during a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell in February.Director of the OAS office in Grenada, Mr. Francis Mc Barnette told GBN News they are pleased to have lived up to their commitment to provide technical assistance to Grenada.

The team which is led by Stephen Griner will submit its report to the Mr. Insulza, following which recommendations on the way forward will be presented.Meanwhile the opposition National Democratic Congress will on Thursday present a document of complaint to the OAS delegation, outlining its concerns about certain aspects of operations within the Parliamentary Elections Office.

The NDC is also requesting that the final voters list before the next general elections be made available to political parties and presiding officers no less than 3 weeks before Election Day.

Opposition MP Nazim Burke says they have been given the assurance from the OAS that their concerns will be addressed. He added that they have confidence in the capability of the team..
