St. Patrick’s Education District embarking on an Educational Partnership/link

The St. Patrick’s Education District 2 will be embarking on an Educational Partnership/link with the Suffolk Education District in England, from the 17th – 27th February, 2011. Approximately 11 persons will be attached to various schools in St. Patrick’s.

There would be an welcoming ceremony at the St. Patrick’s R.C. School

Friday 18th  February, 2011 at 9:00am.

The Following are the objectives of the visiting team from Suffolk London.

1.)        To enable Suffolk teachers to visit a Caribbean country with historical ties to the UK and to be able to convey to their pupils, through direct experience, the strengths and skills but also the issues for people living in a community that is different but has shared environmental & cultural needs..

2.)        To use the opportunity provided by direct contact to establish a continuing partnership between the schools which will identify mutual strengths and ways of working to lead to much better support and sharing of problem solving and successes as the partnership develops and lead, ultimately, to a reciprocal visit to Suffolk from the Grenadian schools.

3.)        To share with Grenadian teachers, and learn from each other,  approaches to a key issue of mutual interest e.g. boys’ literacy, active learning styles, using questions to improve learning, role play and dilemma-based learning and discuss how this work can be incorporated into the future work of the project

4.)        To develop plans which will sustain  cross-curricular work, including literacy activities, around the key question, an area of current individual school interest and development (see ‘Preparatory work’ above) and the production of  resource materials (see ‘Follow up plans and activities’ below) beyond the link visit.

5.)        To present to the teachers and pupils in Grenada teaching activities and pupil work from and about Suffolk to provide resources and evidence for sustained work in Grenadian schools.

6)        To have built an understanding, particularly through the perceptions of pupils, teachers & the local community of the important issues environmentally and culturally for the community in Grenada & how aspects can be shared with pupils in Suffolk. In particular, to identify the areas of common interest & concern that can be utilised in future work.

7.)        To collect information and resources, including visual and audio material, natural and other artefacts for use in the follow-up work  in Suffolk around the key question and  the individual school interests and the preparation of the  resource pack.
