JOHN’S, Antigua – Players, officials and administrators are all hailing the WICB Professional Cricket League Regional 4-Day Tournament which opens tomorrow.
The PCL R4Day will feature 10 rounds of matches – an expansion from the previous seven season – with the team accumulating the highest number of points over the gruelling, four-month schedule being crowned the new regional champions and claiming the Headley/Weekes Trophy.
There is something extra-special about each match in the first round.
Trinidad & Tobago Red Force host reigning double-crown regional champions Barbados Pride in one of the oldest rivalries in Caribbean sports at Queen’s Park Oval in the T&T capital of Port of Spain.
Jamaica Franchise face Windward Islands Volcanoes at Sabina Park in the Jamaica capital of Kingston in a repeat of last season’s Final Challenge. The Jamaicans are the current holders of the Headley/Weekes Trophy which was given to the winner of last season’s Final Challenge.
And Guyana Jaguars meet Leeward Islands Franchise at the Guyana National Stadium in Providence, just outside the Guyana capital of Georgetown, in a battle that could give a boost of confidence to last season’s two bottom-placed teams.
All six captains – Kraigg Brathwaite of the Pride, Leon Johnson of the Jaguars, Tamar Lambert of Jamaica, Devon Thomas of Leewards, Rayad Emrit of the Red Force and Liam Sebastien of the Volcanoes spoke to WICB Media about the upcoming season.
