NDC MP Peter David wins dual citizenship case

ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA (JUNE 3, 2008) — The Court of Appeal in Grenada has thrown out a dual citizenship case brought by the Attorney General against National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament Peter David.

The court has ruled that Peter David is free to contest the upcoming elections scheduled for July 08.

The case was brought by Attorney General Elvin Nimrod who now has to pay more than 20-thousand EC dollars in expenses for David.

David says the outcome of the case is an indication of how tax payers money is being spent by the ruling New National Party government.

“This is an absolute waste of government expenditure. It reflects the mismanagement that takes place in this country. They choose to proceed with the case for political and vindictive reasons”, said David

David is Canadian citizen, making him a Commonwealth citizen.

Under the Grenadian constitution such persons are allowed to run as a Member of Parliament.

However the ruling NNP government is contending that David is not qualified to be in office while holding dual citizenship with Canada..
