On 13th September, 16 year old Calum Noel made Grenada proud as he represented his Nation at the International Triathlon Union World Championships in London, England. Calum’s performances at the Tri de Spice Triathlon this year where he became Sprint National Champion and his victory in Tobago earned him entry to this prestigious event. He took part in the National age group World Championship division and raced against over 90 people in the 16-19 yr division and over 1000 competitors overall. He was the youngest competitor overall.

The conditions were challenging with a temperature of 14◦ C and rain making the road very slippery. He had to swim using a wet suit for the first time ( competition rules) Even with these obstacles Calum rose to the occasion putting in a wonderful performance which saw him beating over 400 competitors overall and placing 75th in his age group beating both American, Canadian and British rivals.

Calum a form 5 Westmorland student ,who trains almost every morning before school and every evening between homework now looks forward to training towards the Youth Olympics qualifying event in 2014. Thanks go to his coach and mentor National triathlete Marc Decaul, members of the Tri de Spice team who he trains with, the Grenada Olympic Committee for their sponsorship towards travel to the event and his family support.
