St. George’s, December 14, 2011 – Formal Christmas celebrations for children in various part of the Town of St. George will begin next week in a combined effort that will include community volunteers.
The first in a planed series of children’s Christmas parties is scheduled for Tuesday, December 20, at the LIME Tanteen Children’s Playground, which is also known as “The Swing.’’ It is scheduled to run from 4 pm – 6.30 pm.
As Christmas Day draws closer, groups and individuals – including Members of Parliament and government ministers – organize holiday events, particularly for children and the elderly.
Next Tuesday’s event, to be hosted by MP Peter David, is being spearheaded by the Town of St. George Constituency Group. They have requested personnel and material assistance from various individuals, businesses and community groups, including the Carenage Organisation for Recreation and Entertainment (CORE).
“The party next Tuesday at the Swing is for children from the Carenage and surrounding communities, as well as for children from Town; that is, from Grenville Street and the Four Roads’ area,’’ one organiser said. “Other children’s Christmas parties are planned for River Road and also for Cemetery Hill.’’
The organiser said that persons interested in helping with the parties or in making a donation of food, drinks or toys, can contact 410-1850 or 403-3239.
Because Christmas falls on a Sunday, Governor General Sir Carlyle Glean has proclaimed Tuesday, December 27, as a Bank Holiday.
As customary, Boxing Day – December 26 – remains a public holiday.
