The Grenada Embassy in Brussels hosted a successful investment seminar which was held at the Sofitel Hotel in Brussels. The meeting was facilitated by Ambassador Stephen Fletcher. There were over fourty delegates plus media from the UK, Belgium, Spain and Hungary and expressed interest in projects relating to tourism, agriculture, agribusiness, geothermal and solar energy.
The delegation from Grenada included Mr Christopher De Riggs director for private sector development at the Ministry of Finance and vice chair of the board of the GIDC, Mrs Cathyann Alexander-Pierre Senior Investment Promotions Officer at the GIDC, Mr. Michael Gunn, Director of Bacolet Bay Development Resort and Mr. Dan Nicholson, Director of Levera Resort Development.
Mr DeRiggs presented an overview of the Grenadian macro environment highlighting the governments policy of competitiveness, especially its successful implementation of business friendly reforms. He also emphasised the governments policy of partnering with the private sector and the five transformative sectors to reenergise investments in the hotel sector and other key sectors. “The investment promotion act represents a predictable and transparent tract for investors to run on and provides security of investments whether they be foreign or domestic” said Mr De Riggs. Mrs. Pierre, presented on Grenada’s Investment opportunities. The delegation will continue their investment promotions with a schedule of meetings on Wednesday including appointments with KBC bank, the Centre for the Development of Enterprise (CDE) and ING Bank.
Presentations were made by the developers about their projects in Grenada and they took the opportunity to make particular mention of the very stable investor friendly business environment. In addition to making presentation the investors met with a number of potential investment partners.
“It was a resounding success” said Ambassador Fletcher, he also expressed his thanks to the local manufacturers who contributed sample products as gifts to the guests. Speaking after the event Ambassador Fletcher stated he was very pleased with the outcome of the symposium and the prospects for future investments in Grenada. “This event was fantastic, it is clear good things are happening in Grenada” said Jean Misson, architect.
During the question and answer sessions, attendees were keen to learn of Grenada’s commitment to agriculture and the role agricultural production will play in the supply chain to these tourism projects. The ambassador in answering, highlighted Grenada’s continued commitment to the agricultural sector.
