UWI DELEGATION VISITS GRENADA

St.George’s, Grenada: – A delegation from the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, headed by its Principal Professor Clement Sankat, will arrive in Grenada on 12th November, 2008, to hold discussions with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture towards ensuring that a healthy agricultural sector becomes a reality.

The other members of the delegation are the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Agriculture – Professor Narinesingh, the Director, Business Development Office – Dr. David Rampersad, the Senior Advisor, Business and Development Office- Dr. Ranjit Singh and Dr. Everson Peters  -Faculty of Engineering. 

The delegation will pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister, Hon. Tillman Thomas and Agriculture Minister, Hon. Denis Lett.  They will also hold discussions with Ministry of Agriculture officials and representatives from the Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association, after which they will tour a nutmeg receiving station and plant propagation unit.

The visit to Grenada by the UWI delegation is a direct result of the Strategic Planning Retreat which was held from September 9th to 11th, 2008.

Dr. Everson Peters and Dr. Ranjit Singh who participated in the Retreat reported to the UWI the importance of Agriculture to the national development of Grenada and the role UWI could play in that development.

The UWI responded with the team visit which will discuss among other things the needs of the Ministry of Agriculture, the types of resources required, including Research and Development, Science and Technology and modalities for the provision of support.
