St. George’s, Grenada. October 10th, 2008: It was an action packed weekend on October 5th, 2008 in Trinidad where Grenada saw five of its cars competing against some of Trinidad fast Cars. Grenadians Alan Mc Intyre, Joshua Lewis, Wayne Green and Keith Braveboy surely gave the trinis something to talk about. Although Keith Braveboy did not compete with his Mazda Rotary “Small Pox” due to engine failure and Wayne Green did not get to Trinidad in time to compete, both Allan McIntyre and Joshua Lewis, no strangers to Motorsports in Grenada, kept the Grenadian flag flying making their country proud as they both came in 2nd in their respective brackets.
Mc Intyre is now deemed as Grenada’s fastest, as he posted a time of 9.7sec at 140 mph on the quarter mile track with his modified Ford Mustang; a time that no other car from Grenada has ever done. Joshua, who is always consistent with his times, did a time of 12.1 sec with his modified Toyota Starlet. However, it must be noted that Joshua recorded a time of 11.9 sec in Antigua at the 2007 Invasion of Caribbean Imports.
Overall both drivers did exceptionally well considering the fact that they ran against some of Trinidad’s “big guns”. At the end of race day, Mc Intyre secured 2nd place in the 9sec bracket, a position which he also secured on September 18th, 2008 in the 10 sec bracket also in Trinidad. Lewis came 2nd in the 12 sec category with his Toyota Starlet and 3rd in the 13sec. category with his Mitsubishi Evolution II.
Joshua is sponsored by Ali ten dollar store, Sammy’s Redi-mix, Andy Lewis services, Design Factory, Country Cold Store and Josh Crane service while Alan is sponsored by Richard McIntyre Insurance, Marine World Ltd, Quaker State oils (Trinidad), Gofastnews.com, Wizz Kid performance and Denver’s Auto collision. The Grenadian drivers said they are looking foward to see the Media and many more business organizations play an active role in Motorsports, particularly in the aspect of sponsorship. The team also said that they would like to see the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and the Government of Grenada getting more involved in helping promote and build Motorsports in Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Matinique.
Team Grenada comprising of Alan Mc Intyre, Wayne Green and Joshua Lewis who will be racing his two cars, is due back in Trinidad this coming weekend (Oct 17th – 19th) for yet another full weekend of racing.
The Grenada Motoring Club would like to extend condolences to the families of persons injured in last friday’s fatal accident where 28 year old Kurt “caution” George lost his life. The Grenada Motoring Club is once again appealing to ALL drivers and Motorcycle Riders to KEEP IT OFF THE STREETS – LEAVE IT FOR PEARLS. Let us keep the streets safe for all motorist and pedestrians alike.
