Police-community cooperation applauded

St. George’s, May 26, 2011 – Tourism Minister Peter David has said that the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) should replace the word “force’’ with “service.

According to the Minister, “service’’ better reflects what the RGPF is doing in communities across the country.

Mr. David made the comment Thursday, May 26, at an event at the Grand Anse Sports Complex. The event marked one phase of a project in which the RGPF is upgrading the tennis, basket and netball facilities at the complex.

The Tourism Minister, and MP for the Town of St. George, was substituting for Labour Minister and MP for St. George South, Glynis Roberts, who is out of the island.

Mr. David congratulated the RGPF for its community involvement, offering particular commendation to the Special Services Unit (SSU) of the police for running its popular fitness classes that attract dozens of people.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Veda Bruno-Victor, Commissioner of Police, James Clarkson, and several senior RGPF officers attended the event, in which a billboard was unveiled. It highlights the cooperation between the police and South St. George residents in realizing the sports complex project.

There were also exhibitions, healthcare checks, dancing and an exercise demonstration from members of the SSU fitness classes.
