New and veteran artistes, Shortknee for Carnival City

St. George’s, July 18, 2012 – The popular Carnival City shows, hosted by the Spicemas Corporation (SMC) and LIME, continue to generate excitement and exposure to new and established artistes.

When the show is held this Thursday, July 19, at Garfiel’s Summer LIME on Kirani James Boulevard, among its featured acts will be Nisha McIntyre, a newcomer to soca competition.

McIntyre, a communications specialist and daughter of former national sportsman and sportswoman, Nordica McIntyre and Trevor Thwaites, is a semifinalist in the upcoming Groovy Soca Monarch championship.

Thursday’s “Groove, Calypso and Pan’’ at Carnival City will also include performances from Shatta Ricky; Little Natty and Thunda; Soca Banton; Skinny Banton; Spontaneous; Area Code; Brent David; Mr. Leggs; Devon Flanders; Sand Man; and Mario Toussaint.

The evening’s concert will be complemented by steelband music from defending panorama champions, Republic Bank Angel Harps.

The SMC, which brought Carnival City to parishes around the country on Sundays, will hold its final roadshow on July 22.

Sunday’s show is 1 pm – 8 pm, at Fond Recreation Ground in St. Patrick. Admission is $5.

“The family fun day,’’ according to the SMC, “will include a Shortknee Festival involving 10 Shortknee squads, as well as Vieux Cour, Moko Jumbies, and Fancy Masqueraders.’’
