National Youth Ambassadors hold meeting

ST GEORGE’S, GRENADA: Participants of the National Youth Ambassadors programme of the Department of Youth Development have held another in a series of meetings as they prepare themselves to become more equipped to handle the portfolios of youth ambassadors. The programme will be beneficial to the participants not only in their capacities of Youth Ambassadors but also as young persons promoting positivity.

Present at the session was Minister for Youth Development, Senator the Honorable Emmalin Pierre. Senator Pierre has represented young people in Grenada at local, regional and International fora. Minister Pierre was the former Deputy Chairperson of the Regional Youth Caucus of the Commonwealth Youth Programme, she has been an observer to the Nigerian elections in 1995, and has represented Grenadian Youth in various other capacities.

Senator Pierre encouraged the participants to take heed of the experiences and opportunities that they will gain through the programme. She also implored them to do their best to ensure the enrichment and motivation of themselves and other young people.

Also present was the current Regional Youth Caucus Chair for the Commonwealth Youth Programme, Mr. Norman Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert, who is also the Project Coordinator in the Department of Youth Development, expressed the same sentiments of the Minister placing emphasis on the importance of being youth ambassadors. He asked of all the participants to ensure that high standards are kept at all times.

Mrs. Eunice Sandy David the Permanent Secretary in the Department of Youth Development, gave a brief presentation on Personal Development placing specific emphasis on Deportment. She explained the need for Youth Ambassadors to always give good first impressions.

The Youth Ambassadors Programme continues to provide training to over one hundred young persons from all parts of the island in various fields of diplomacy and protocol as well as history, civics etc..
