Help received for purchasing material for community project

St. George’s, October 5, 2012 – Grenadians living in the Diaspora continue to contribute to the development of their homeland, with the latest beneficiary of their generosity being residents of a St. George’s community.

Members of the River Road/Darbeau Development Organisation, with the support of MP Peter David, have been trying to complete the refurbishing of the Queen’s Park Community Centre that was severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan in 2004.

Contributions and assistance to the project have also been made by the Grenada Government, the Government of the People’s Republic of China and by various individuals and businesses such as Grenada Steel Works.

However, shortage of some material has held up the completion of the work but that problem should be no more.

A Town of St. George group in the Diaspora, which recently supplied bags and other items for students returning to school in September, has now made a cash donation for purchasing material for the Queen’s Park Community Centre.

Officials of the group have expressed a commitment to “continue making sacrifices to assist whenever and wherever possible to community development projects. We are happy to help and will try our best to respond to calls for help whenever they are made by community groups and organisations in Grenada.’’

The next step in the River Road Community Centre project is the purchase of material and the dedication of a day for working on the centre.

“The work day will be on Sunday, October 14. I’ll be there and I’m inviting other residents of River Road, Darbeau and the Town of St. George to come and assist with the work to complete the centre,’’ MP David said.

“I also want to take this opportunity to once again to commend the diligence of the contractors and to praise the volunteer work that thus far have been provided to ensure the completion of the community centre.’’
