The GTEP Planning Committee wishes to inform the General Public that it is extremely pleased with the response from a wide cross section of citizens who have shown interest in the GTEP Programme that was officially launched by the Prime Minister on February 14, 2008. GTEP’s main focus is that of providing the unemployed citizens of the country with the skills and competencies required to become competitive in the local and regional labour market and to be successful in life in general. In this regard, the project provides for the design and delivery of a programme of training in occupational and life skills targeted specifically at unemployed persons who because of a lack of the skills demanded by industry are at a profound disadvantage in the job market. Due to the overwhelming response to the programme and owing to limitations of space and equipment at the twenty (20) Centres, priority is being given to the unemployed trainees transitioning to the Hard Skills. However, plans are presently being formulated to offer the exact technical skills to the employed who will be notified shortly of the date of commencement. The Soft Skills component of the Programme, lasting for five (5) weeks will be completed on March 27, 2008. It is envisaged that the Hard Skills Component of the Programme will commence shortly thereafter on April 7, 2008 and will conclude in July 2008. The GTEP Planning Committee wishes to apologise for any mis-communication that was provided to the trainees regarding their continued participation in the Programme. .
