Grenadians In Canada Collects Items For Grenada

Grenadians in Canada are involved one of the largest collections of food and other items, which will be shipped to their homeland for the Christmas holidays.  The project is being spearheaded by members of the Toronto and Montreal Support Groups of Grenada’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.

Last year, the Montreal and Toronto groups made separate shipments of barrels to the Caribbean nation.  This year, however, they have obtained a container that they expect to stock with donations from both cities.

“Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, during his recent visit to Toronto, emphasized to us how important are our contributions to the development of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique,” said Peter Bishop, public relations officer of the NDC Toronto Support Group.

“We are going all out to collect food, toys, books and other school supplies.  We appeal to the rest of the community, Grenadians and non-Grenadians, to assist by making an in-kind or cash donation to this Christmas drive.”

Bishop said donations can be made by contacting members of the executive of NDC Toronto or by e-mailing ndctoronto@gmail.com

The container, which is now in Montreal where donations of food, toys and school supplies have already been received, will arrive in Toronto within two weeks.  It will be shipped to Grenada in early November.

“Distribution of the items will be nationwide, without regard to class or political affiliation,” said Bishop.
