Commissioner of Police Mr. Winston James has issued a call to the Nation to exercise patience, restraint, and a greater sense of reasoning in settling disputes and altercations. The call was made to day, as a result of the latest murder in Westerhall in St. David’s on Wednesday 20th February 2008.
Mr. Anthony Morain lost his life as a result of stab wounds inflicted by an employee, increasing the number of murders to four (4) in the past fifteen days.
An unprecedented occurrence in this country’s history.
Commissioner James also wishes to assure the Nation, that none of the recent incidents were related, and do not establish a pattern, and as a result there is absolutely no reason for fear, or to be unnecessarily alarmed.
It should be noted that three of the incidents were as a result of disputes and the other from an attempted robbery.
However there is a general cause for concern in the way we interact with our fellow men and settle disputes and misunderstandings.
Over the past five years the country has recorded forty-nine (49) murders and the investigative units of the Royal Grenada Police Force have successfully solved all but three of those matters.
We have been able to successfully investigate, detain and lay charges in all of the four recent incidents.
The Commissioner also wishes to take this opportunity to commend the investigating units of the R.G.P.F. for their high levels of efficiency and professionalism is responding to and eventually solving the recent matters.
Commissioner James also records his concern with the indiscriminate use of cutlasses and knives in settling disputes and misunderstandings and makes an urgent call to all to exercise restraint and control.
Commissioner Winston James wishes to reassure the Nation that the Royal Grenada Police Force will utilize all its resources to maintain a peaceful and safe environment for all to enjoy and conduct our daily businesses.
