Friday March 28, 2008, St. George’s: The Government of Grenada through the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Government of Cuba and the Grenada Rural Enterprise Project on Thursday 27th, March, 2008 held its graduation and awards ceremony at the Grenada Boys Secondary School Auditorium, marking the culmination of the first phase of the “Yes I Can” Adult Literacy Programme.
Under the theme, “Adult Education, a tool for economic and social development” 112 participants representing 10 of 21 Adult Literacy Programme (ALP) centers received certificates. The ‘Yes I can’ programme which is designed to assist persons with difficulties in reading and writing, provides the framework for advanced studies and further educational advancements and employment. The programme has identified four (4) basic skills of the English language ‘Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking’ which are integrated to teach persons how to form words, sentences and paragraphs using letters and numbers. The programme was first launched in November of 2006. The second phase of the programme is carded to begin in May/June of 2009. This is the first batch of persons to be certified under the “Yes I Can” Adult Literacy Programme..
